SMC NFPA Flat 6 Bar Rappel Rack
The SMC NFPA Flat 6 Bar Rappel Rack is a professional J-frame descent and lowering device designed for rescue, rope-access, and work-at-height applications. Unlike a U-frame rack, its open J-frame design allows the operator to adjust friction while under load by adding or removing brake bars, providing a broad range of descent control for varying loads and operating conditions.
The rack uses a stainless-steel frame and stainless-steel tie-off bar with five aluminum brake bars. The larger six-bar configuration provides substantial friction adjustment, while the tie-off bar can be used to facilitate tie-offs or add friction. SMC states that the device may be used with single or double ropes of varying diameters and may function as either a rappel or lowering device. Its inline rope path also minimizes the rope twisting associated with Figure 8-style descenders.
