CMI Figure 8 Descender
The CMI Figure 8 Descender is a forged aluminum figure-eight device designed for rappelling, belaying, and controlled rope descent. CMI introduced its original forged aluminum Figure 8 design in 1974 and continues to manufacture the device from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy for strength, low weight, and effective rope friction.
Constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, the Figure 8 weighs 117 g (4.2 oz.) and provides a breaking strength exceeding 8,000 lb. The device measures approximately 5.5 inches long by 3 inches wide.
Vertex offers the CMI Figure 8 in two configurations. The Polished Silver version provides the traditional aluminum finish, while the Hard Coat Blue version incorporates CMI's hardcoat treatment for increased wear resistance and extended service life.
